Passing Down a Giving Heart
Her children affectionately called her "fat maw" and she instilled the importance of having a giving heart in the Forbes family early in life.
She taught these valuable lessons to her daughter, Betty, and her granddaughter, Lindy. Both women have embraced the ideal that "it is more blessed to give than to receive."
Today they both find great joy and satisfaction in helping others, especially those with the greatest needs.
Now, Betty and Lindy have decided to make a generous gift in their wills to establish scholarships for students at Campbellsville University with financial needs.
Betty says, "God put us on this earth to share with others. Generosity is what gives meaning to life."
Lindy graduated with a teaching degree from Campbellsville College in 1987. She says her experience at Campbellsville College inspired her because she felt a special spirit on the campus.
Lindy says, "You could not turn the corner anywhere on campus and not feel that spirit, which I truly believe was the spirit of God's love and care. The heart of the faculty and staff at Campbellsville was focused on helping students succeed."
At the time, she did not realize the personal sacrifices being made by many of these employees during times of financial crisis at the institution. Betty and Lindy hope their gifts to support student scholarships will help prevent the occurrence of future financial hardships.
Lindy says, "Campbellsville University is now a part of my heart because I would not be the person I have become without my experiences at Campbellsville."
The desire to help students have this same experience was strong motivation for both Lindy and her mom in their decision to include Campbellsville University in their wills.
God has blessed Betty and Lindy Forbes with the financial resources to make a significant impact on the lives of students but, more importantly, He has implanted them with giving hearts.
