Fair Scholarship “Gives You Wings to Fly”
By Natasha Janes, student news writer
Mattie Fair has this to say about education:
The Charles and Mattie Cooksey Fair Scholarship at Campbellsville University started in 1997 and was created in honor of the late Charlie Fair by his widow, Mattie.
Mattie says she supports Campbellsville University because she feels education is so important to young people—she and her husband had a combined 74 years in the teaching profession. She is a supporter of the President's Club as well as the scholarship program.
Meeting the Students She's Helping
Mattie has met at least three of the scholarship recipients over the years. She met Danielle Bastin, this year's recipient, and was thrilled to see how excited Danielle was about becoming a teacher. Danielle, who lives in Yosemite, Ky., lives close to Mattie's farm, and Mattie says she believes they will stay in touch.
"I donate to Campbellsville University because I feel a Christian education is important, and when I meet young people like Danielle Bastin, I know it is the right decision," Mattie says. "An education is the best money anyone can give to your child. It gives you wings to fly to places you never dreamed possible when you start your journey as a 17 or 18-year-old freshman.
"I hope the Charles and Mattie Cooksey Fair Scholarship fund will continue for years to come."
